Athens 1966 Greece wavering between reform and self-destruction. Thirteen year-old Dimitris unexpectedly loses his father when the new government discontinues the construction of a monstrous 12-story high rise in the center of the capital. Seeing his pampered mother collapse young Dimitris gets carried away by his prematurely grown-up appearance and decides to skip childhood in order to stand by her and continue his father's work. A brutal coming-of-age ritual follows. When he feels ready to shoulder his responsibilities he must claim his mother back from the arms of an up-and-coming star of the political scene. TAKE CARE
1991

Summary

In Athens - Greece, today. Christos, 22, wants to hit the big time, become famous, and make money. But it is Michalis, Marina's husband and Fanny's father, who has the money. Marina is a woman who sacrifices herself for her husband and kids, but now (in her forties) her heart flutters again the way it did when she was in her twenties. Fanny, 18, a would-be swimming champ, is already in love with him. Roula, his hot-blooded girlfriend is not willing to lose him. It has been quite a while since a Greek filmmaker last dealt with the small insignificant" dramas that are played out every day in Athenian apartments without ever hitting the front pages of the dailies or the evening news. The protagonist in Tsemberopoulos' film is our next-door neighbour, the lady in the apartment building across the street, the kid who rented the semi-basement studio and so on. The setting takes place in the archetypal "Athenian apartment", a futile test tube where needs, dreams and passions stir together.
